DIVERTER VALVE: Valve which redirects flow of water to another application within a plumbing system. It is commonly used for diverting water from the tub faucet to a showerhead.

THERMOSTATIC VALVE: A shower mixing valve with automatic temperature control. When temperature fluctuations occur at the water inlets, a thermal actuator adjusts the hot and cold ratio to maintain the original temperature setting. A thermostatic mixing valve (TMV) is a valve that blends hot water with cold water to ensure constant, safe shower and bath outlet temperatures, preventing scalding.

PRESSURE-BALANCED VALVE: required by building codes in some municipalities, provides water at nearly constant temperature to a shower or bathtub, despite pressure fluctuations in either the hot or cold supply lines. The pressure-balanced shower valve compensates for changes in water pressure. It has a diaphragm or piston inside that reacts to relative changes in either hot or cold water pressure to maintain balanced pressure. As water pressure drops on one supply line, the valve reduces the pressure in the other supply line to match. A side effect of this is that the pressure and flow at the shower head or tub spigot will drop twice as much as if only one supply line had been affected, but without a large temperature change.

SHOWER & TUB ROUGH-IN VALVES: the basic control and body for the delivery of hot and cold water to your shower or bathtub faucet. These parts are essential to the functionality of your shower and must be connected to the water lines behind the shower control in order to control the water supply.
